Fillings

What is a filling?

A filling is used to help fill in a gap or cavity in a tooth that may have appeared due to decay, or in some cases due to injury or simple wear and tear.

How will I know if I need a filling?

Having regular dental examinations with us here at n22dental means we may discover the need for a filling before you realise anything is wrong. Some patients may well experience a range of symptoms indicating the need for further treatment.

These symptoms include increased sensitivity in the tooth and pain or difficulty when chewing or biting down. It’s important you contact us here at the practice as soon as you can if you are experiencing any of these symptoms. This is so we can diagnose and treat the issue before the cavity gets any larger or the discomfort worsens.

What is the treatment for a filling like?

This is a fairly routine treatment, involving the application of an anaesthetic so you don’t feel anything in the area being treated. When this has taken effect, we will remove the decayed and/or infected part of the tooth and thoroughly clean the area.

Once clean we restore the tooth back to full function.

How do I care for my filling?

A filling can be cared for just as you would a natural tooth. We recommend brushing your teeth twice daily for two minutes with a fluoride toothpaste, aswell as flossing regularly, and visiting us here for regular check-ups.
